Horticulture

The mission of the Horticulture Program is:

  • To provide quality programs for members of the commercial horticulture community, with an emphasis on integrated pest management (IPM), pesticide training, and innovative, localized research.
  • To help Rensselaer County consumers maintain and improve their homes and grounds using environmentally-sound horticultural practices.
  • To create a dynamic Master Gardener program, which fosters leaders and teachers willing to share their knowledge with the community

Topics covered in this training include: Organic Weed Management Update, Tough Plants for Tough Places: Choosing Plants that Thrive Without Pesticides, Soil Testing and Soil Test Interpretation, and Common Tree and Shrub Pest Problems: Identification and Management. Registration fee is $40 per person. Registration Deadline is February 24 or when class is filled. This class  will provide 4 hours of continuing education for persons already enrolled as service providers in the Be Green Organic Yards NY program.
