Horticulture

The mission of the Horticulture Program is:

  • To provide quality programs for members of the commercial horticulture community, with an emphasis on integrated pest management (IPM), pesticide training, and innovative, localized research.
  • To help Rensselaer County consumers maintain and improve their homes and grounds using environmentally-sound horticultural practices.
  • To create a dynamic Master Gardener program, which fosters leaders and teachers willing to share their knowledge with the community

Events

at the Schaghticoke Fair, Schaghticoke.  When at the fair, bring your gardening questions to the Master Gardener Gazebo and enjoy the displays of onions and dahlias.  Admission fee charged.

The Demonstration Garden at the Robert C. Parker School, 4254 Route 43, North Greenbush (Wynantskill), 6 to 7 PM.  A discussion of the magnificent ornamental grasses found in the garden, as well as good grasses for lawns and the weedy grasses found in gardens and along roadsides.  Free.

 George’s Market and Nursery, 240 Wade Road Extension (opposite Target), Latham, 4 to 5 PM.  Learn some facts and suggestions about how to place the right plant in the right place in your garden for optimal success.  This is the last in our “Leave Work Early On Friday” series of garden talks.  Free.
